Second Life has been updated to version 1.18.4.3.

New iMacs

We plan on installing new iMacs in the League today. There will be some time that they'll be unavailable as they download the games, but it shouldn't take too long.

New Games

We've been getting a lot of comments about what new games people would like to see in the Cyber Lounge, so I thought I'd explain what goes into the process by which we add games to the loadset.

1. Money
   Naturally, games cost money. We have to buy a copy of each game for each computer in the Cyber Lounge. This is why free games (or subscriber-based games like World of Warcraft) are desirable.
   


2. Compatibility
   With both Mac and PC computers in the league, we'll likely look more favorably on spending money on games that are compatible with both Macs and PCs. Furthermore, on both platforms (or one or the other for single-platform games) we need to be able to run the game without a CD. For a lot of games, this isn't possible.


3. License
   Some games that we've explored (e.g. Battlefield 2142) link their CD-Key to a specific user account. Naturally, since we only have one CD-Key per computer, we can't support these games.

Thank you all for your feedback; it's been very useful in steering the direction of the Cyber Lounge. There will be some more updates soon -- including the replacement of the Mac stations with new Intel-based iMacs -- and hopefully we'll continue to meet your gaming needs.

World of Warcraft has been updated to 2.2.3.

PC Update

We've made the Fall 2007 update, which updates the following programs:

• Dungeons and Dragons Online


• Guild Wars


• Rappelz


• Second Life to 1.18.2.1


• World of Warcraft to 2.2

There are also some changes to how games are launched that normally require a CD. Please let us know if you notice any difficulty launching games. Also, we have found that Civilization 4 was not working. For the time being it's been removed until we can get it to work without a CD.

PC Update

We plan on updating the PCs in the League around lunchtime today; they will be unavailable as they receive their updates. The Macs will continue to be accessible.

Edit: We couldn't get the computers yesterday (they were in use) so all but one are updating right now. They should be available this afternoon.

Second Life has been updated to version 1.18.3.5, and World of Warcraft to 2.2.2.

We plan on making an update for the PCs late this week or early next week; PC updates in this environment are more in-depth, so we can't do them as often.

Update this morning

We’re heading over to do the update. PCs will be unavailable this morning and afternoon. I’ll post when they’re back up.

Image Update

We’ve re-done the image and are confident that it won’t have the same problems as the last one. It will be updated either tomorrow (Thursday) or Friday morning, during which time (~5-6 hours) they will set themselves up and be unavailable.

Bugs

It looks like some bugs got added to our last update along with the new games. We’re working on improving login times and fixing AFS.

New PC Update

We are doing another update for the PCs in the League. The following programs will be updated to their latest versions:

• Dungeons & Dragons Online (It shouldn't take an hour to start now)
• World of Warcraft
• Second Life
  

We've also added two new games:

• Cave Story Deluxe

We're updating the software at the League with the following upgrades:

• McAfee VirusScan to version 8.5
• Mozilla Firefox to version 2.0.0.3
  
• PuTTY to version 0.59

This update should take place within the next week.

BIOS Updates

Please do not click "Cancel" on any dialog box that may appear concerning an administrative reboot. We are updating the BIOS on all of our stations at the League.
